White wants Overeem vs. dos Santos, praises ‘unbelievable’ Roy Nelson
With a cautious beating of Roy Nelson at UFC 185, Dana White wants a fight with Junior dos Santos next. “I like it,” said White. “Does Overeem like it?”
UFC heavyweight Overeem came into the league with huge expectations and a huge contract. In his first fight he, as the hardcore fan base put it, kicked Brock Lesnar in the cancer, and out of MMA. In his next two fights ‘Reem was beating both Travis Browne and Antonio Silva, before visibly gassing, and losing via KO. With his win over Roy Nelson on Saturday, Overeem has now won two in a row and three of his last four.
“I felt very confident going into the fight,” he said. “At Jackson’s there’s a lot of chemistry, we work together and everyone is there to help their teammates out. The environment over there gives me confidence, everyone is very friendly. Switching to that camp has really been the recipe to my success.”
UFC president Dana White spoke with Ariel Helwani on FOX Sports 1 post UFC 185 and discussed Alistair Overeem’s cautious beating of Nelson.
“Alistair looked better than he’s ever looked, I just wish he had more killer instinct,” said White as transcribed by Marc Raimondi for MMAFighting.com. “He had Roy hurt at one point. He doesn’t like to take risks, but he looked good tonight.”
“How tough is Roy Nelson? Roy Nelson is not human. The shots that guy took tonight. The kicks to the body were unbelievable.”
White wants to next match Overeem with Junior dos Santos, in a striker showdown supreme.
