UFC President Dana White was interviewed recently by the Canadian RDS channel, and revealed that WWE owner Vince McMahon wanted to fight him.
“I’ll tell you this and I’ve never said this before ever in an interview anywhere,” said White. “And if Vince hears this, he’s going to go nuts, OK? Vince is too old, which he won’t think he is and he’ll go crazy. He wanted to do that one time – Vince wanted to fight me. I swear to god.
“He called me up and said, ‘let’s do it. We can either do it in the UFC or do it at WrestleMania.’ And I said, ‘You are crazy, man.’ A lot of people talk about Vince, I always have said it and I’ll say it again – I respect Vince very much but Vince is too old to be fighting.”
Dave Meltzer’s F4WOnline confirmed the story, and provided further details.
White vs. Vince McMahon was Vince’s idea for a main event at WrestleMania 27 in 2011.
Unbeknownst to White, the guy who interviewed him* is the son of a Montreal pro wrestler, Denis Gauthier, and his wife, Joanne Rougeau (daughter of legendary Montreal wrestler Jacques Rougeau Sr. and sister of Raymond and Jacques Jr.), was the former local wrestling promoter for WWF at the same Bell Centre where tomorrow night’s UFC is coming from.

And a match between the head of WWE and the head of UFC would have done bonkers business at the box office.
The folks at the Wrestling Observer have noted that McMahon vs. White was “Vince’s idea for a main event at WrestleMania 27.” So that’s why Miz was the headlining attraction at such a major show with The Rock returning to set up a years long feud with John Cena; because McMahon couldn’t get White to agree to a match.
What a match it would have been. Then again, can you imagine the negotiations with the two sides trying to iron out who would be going over? That would probably be a better fight than anything we could witness inside the ring.
