White: Trainers don’t make great fighters. Talented fighters make trainers

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on tonight’s special edition of UFC Tonight, White wasn’t shy about his feelings about Greg Jackson, coach of Jon Jones amongst many other high level MMA athletes.

White stated: “This is my philosophy on trainers, too: You need a good trainer, a guy who’s gonna be there for you, who can kind of keep you in line and keep you training and everything else. But trainers don’t make fighters. Talented fighters make trainers, and that’s a fact.”

White went on to expand that Greg Jackson is first and foremost a business man, not a family member to these athletes: “The thing you have to understand about Greg Jackson, too, and I’ll say it again, I said it before, this guy’s a businessman. First and foremost, before anything, this guy is a businessman. He built a business. He is not your family. If you get hurt, he’s not gonna pay your bills.”
