White: There’s no guarantee that Mayweather beats McGregor
Dana White: “It’s the crazy thing about the fight business. I mean if it was guaranteed that Floyd was going to win this fight, why would you pay for it?”
The new UFC owners reduced costs by laying off staff and among other steps cutting the corporate jet. Thus it came to pass that UFC president Dana White was catching a flight out of LAX when a stringer for the paparazzi site X17online asked him whether lightweight champion Conor McGregor and famed boxer Floyd Mayweather were going to box.
White began with a two-word reply.
“I do,” he said.
Most fans believe that Conor McGregor can’t outswim Michael Phelps, can’t outrun Usain Bolt over 100 meters, and can’t beat Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring. However, White wasn’t ready to say that.
Great thing about fights is you never know who’s going to win, said White, as transcribed by Damon Martin for FOX Sports. Believe me, there’s a lot of weekends we put on fights and I think people aren’t going to win and they do. It’s the crazy thing about the fight business. I mean if it was guaranteed that Floyd was going to win this fight, why would you pay for it?

Conor’s 27, Floyd’s 40. Conor’s the bigger, stronger guy. He’s got knockout power. It’s an interesting fight.
The next question, of course, is when? The two sides are negotiating over the revenue split, but it is believed the fight will happen in September.
Probably not for a while but I believe it will happen, said White. There’s too much money involved to not happen.
