White: Test failures by Wand, Chael are ruinous

Chael Sonnen recently failed a surprise drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and Wanderlei Silva literally ran from one, which is an admission of failure.

Sonnen’s failure was for drugs designed to wean the body from testosterone, and return it to normal functioning, but those drugs are themselves also illegal. Sonnen then retired.

Wanderlei said he ran as he had been taking diuretics for an injured wrist. As diuretics are banned due to their ability to mask drugs, Silva’s explanation is not compelling.

During a recent appearance on AXSTV’s “Inside MMA” UFC president Dana White discussed the fallout.

You’re basically ruined, when you get—Chael Sonnen had to retire,” said White as transcribed by fansided. “He’s retired now. You know how much money that guy could still make in fighting and in MMA and in the UFC? Tons of money. He’s gone, he retired because of what went down.

Wanderlei Silva, it was very odd the way it was handled the other day, but I’m pretty confident they’re going to bury him deep. I just don’t know what else you can do to him, other than publicly stone them or beat them with sticks, what else could you do to these guys?
