The world loves a winner, but casinos don’t.
In episode 5 of the UFC’s new Embedded vlog, UFC president Dana White is seen cashing out a big bag of money at the Palms casino.
And the streak lives on,” says White while tipping the cashier $500. “We beat ‘em again. I love this s—.”
The video then cuts to the next day, where White is taking a call at his office from the new head of the Palms. Only one side of the conversation can be heard, but it was unmistakable when White says “then I’m done, I’m done at the Palms then.”
White said it was the third casino to block him, fourth if you count the Palms twice.
Now White explains to the LVRJ’s gossip columnist Norm Clarke that he took the Palms casino for $2,000,0000 since he returned in March. The casino is now again limiting White’s bets, and White is not returning.
Two years ago White stopped gambling at The Palms and took the UFC Fight Nights there with him, after then-president Joe Magliarditi cut his credit line in half. Then new Palms president Dan Lee sent White a case $5,000 per bottle 2001 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Montrachet, as a peace offering.
It apparently worked, apparently too well.
Late last month the Palms, with president Dan Lee just resigned, reduced him to $5,000 per hand of blackjack, from $25,000.
A lot of people are going to think I’m a card counter after that Ben Affleck thing at the Hard Rock,” White told Clarke. “I’m the farthest thing from card counter.
Casinos don’t want to gamble anymore. They’re all owned by hedge funds and corporations. They want to stack the odds so much against you that won’t play. Realistically, there’s only one place to play left in town. That’s Caesars. They will let you play what you want to play. No messing around with limits.
Management of The Palms reportedly responded with good humor. White says he heard the casino is sending him an engraved trophy saying congrats you kicked our ass and made us tap out.
Staff of The Palms will doubtless find less humor in it – White is rumored to have tipped dealers nearly $200,000 since his return in March.
Staff at N9ne Steakhouse at The Palms hope he returns regardless of his relationship with the casino – according to multiple reports, White regularly tips $10,000 on a $10,000 tab.
So Palms management is relieved, Palms dealers are sad, N9ne waitstaff is hopeful, and how does White feel about all the gambling?
Has it affected my personal life?” asked White, who is after all up $2,000,0000. “Has it affected my professional life? Have I lost all my money? There’s nothing negative about what I’ve been doing lately.
