UFC president Dana White appeared recently on The Herd and discussed Ronda Rousey’s much-discussed mental state heading into the fight with bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. White did what few others have – instead of wondering what might have been wrong with Rousey, he talked about that was right with Nunes.

Everything, pretty much. And he dismissed talk that Rousey was not mentally prepared to fight.

She trained hard for that fight,” said White, as transcribed byDamon Martin for FOX Sports. “She wanted that fight and she was mentally and physically ready for that fight but she knows what happened, I don’t, White said.

I’ll tell you what of all the people that were actually defending Ronda Rousey, one of the biggest ones was Miesha Tate. Miesha Tate said, ‘Let me tell you what, say what you want about Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes hits like a truck.’ [Tate] fought [Nunes] first. [Nunes] beat two back-to-back legends.

Rousey along with Chuck Liddell and very few other fighters are personal friends with the boss. But White is giving her time to recover from the fight.

Ronda and I haven’t talked, said White. We text. Yesterday was the first day that we started texting and even if it’s a regular fight, the fight that’s going to happen this Sunday, I don’t mess with the fighters for a while. I let them have some time off.

Ronda and I will talk soon and see what she wants to do.

Rousey herself has offer very little comment on the fight. There was an official statement provided by her team to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and a single post on Instagram. The social media post was a quote by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling:
“And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

Make of that what you will.
