White: Rousey return will be biggest UFC PPV ever

For years the biggest pay-per-view in mixed martial arts history was UFC 100 on July 11, 2009, headlined by Brock Lesnar, with 1,600,000 buys. Then Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz at UFC 196 crushed the record, with 1,900,000 PPV buys. UFC president Dana White reported that the Diaz-McGRegor rematch at UFC 202 was on track to set yet a new record.

However, UFC president Dana White predicted that there is a new record coming.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was by far the most dominant fighter in the UFC, until she lost. Then there were four different champions in an eight month span, perhaps the least champion dominated run in league history. Rousey lost to Holly Holm, Holm lost to Miesha Tate, and Tate lost to Amanda Nunes.

Where it stops, nobody knows. Ronda Rousey is the biggest star in UFC history. In 2015, she was the #3 most searched for human being on Google. #4 was Donald Trump. Rousey’s last two PPV buys broke $1,000,000. And she is tanned, rested, and starting light training, to determine a date for her return.

I think that Ronda Rousey’s return will be the biggest pay-per-view we’ve ever done,” related the UFC boss as explained during a recent discussion on The Herd, as transcribed by MMAjunkie.

If you had told me 15 years ago that women would be fighting in the UFC – and if you told me that women would be as technically sound as the men and the fights would be loved by millions of people all over the world and it’d be the hottest thing going on in the UFC – I would have never believed it.”

White has ruled out a return at UFC 205 in November at Madison Square Garden, suggesting simply that the return would be in 2017.
