White: People don’t want to be preached to
Dana White reacts to Romero outburst: “America doesn’t want to hear your thoughts on Jesus. Keep that stuff at home, religion, politics, all that stuff.”

After beating former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 70, Yoel Romero, in a highly adrenalized state, grabbed the mic and said … something. There were conflicting opinions about what it was.
“Wake up, USA! Go! Go back for you, go!” many people heard him say. “Go for Jesus. No forget Jesus, people.”
However, others uncharitably heard a different close.
“Go for Jesus, not for gay Jesus, people,” is the claim. The interpretation is nonsensical. No one anywhere has lately suggested that Jesus is gay. A number of fight fans did afterwards, however, including CM Punk.
Romero quickly apologized, but regardless of what he was saying, it is clear that he was trying to get some point across about the need for more ardent Christian faith in America.
UFC president Dana White spoke recently with Ariel Helwani, and said that that is not the time or place for proselytizing.
“You just won the biggest fight of your career,” said White. “America doesn’t want to hear your thoughts on Jesus. Keep that stuff at home, religion, politics, all that stuff. When you’re out there fighting, and you’re being interviewed, they want to hear about the fight. It’s awesome that you love Jesus. Love Jesus all you want. You just don’t have to do it publicly.”
White added that he knows Romero did not say what people were accusing him of saying.
“Talk about your fight,” said White in closing. “People don’t want to be preached to.”
Amen
