On 11/30 the greatest welterweight in UFC history, Georges St-Pierre, appeared as one of the faces of the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association, an organizing group that seeks to address a long list of grievances, most prominently the portion of income that fighters receive.
In a recent interview with TSN’s Michael Landsberg the fighter said he is back in negotiations for a return to the Octagon.
It doesn’t mean I’m done with the UFC, said St-Pierre. … Actually, the night that we launched the association we received a letter, Rodolphe [Beaulieu] received a letter – my agent – from the UFC lawyer saying that they want to renew the negotiation with me because at the point where I was before the negotiation, the communication was cut. So we didn’t have any kind of communication.
However, Dave Doyle for MMA Fighting reports that sources tell him GSP misspoke and that no significant new talks have occurred. Never the less, during an appearance on the Chad Dukes vs. the World radio show, White seemed to indicate that the door is open to further negotiation.
I have a good relationship with Georges,” said White. “And yeah, obviously, we would love him to fight. The problem is, Georges has a deal. Georges is under contract with us right now. He has a deal. I’m not afraid to give Georges St-Pierre more money, but it’s got to be reasonable.
