White, McGregor not impressed with Showtime Boxing figures

At one point during the MayMac press tour, Conor McGregor’s mic went dead. The fighter laid blame squarely on Showtime Sports general manager Stephen Espinoza.

You little weasel, said McGregor directly to Espinoza the next day in Toronto. Look at you, you little f***ing weasel. I can see it in your eyes, you’re a f***ing bitch. Cut my mic off? Cut the champ’s mic off? Hell no. You f***ing weasel.

You be the judge.

Now Showtime has announced PPV buys, claiming MayMac was the 2nd biggest PPV show in history; both UFC president Dana White and lightweight champion McGregor are not impressed.

When we did the Mayweather fight, I watched and took it all in, I just think all these guys, the guys who are promoting boxing today are bad at it, said White, as transcribed by Alexander K. Lee for MMA Fighting. I don’t think they do a good job, and I think I could do better. It sounds arrogant, but it’s the truth. I think I could do a better job than these guys do.

You know, think about this, and I don’t give a s*** about Showtime’s f***ing full-of-s*** press release they put out. It’s the biggest fight ever in combat sports history. The thing did over 6.7 million buys, and if the service didn’t drop, we would have got closer to seven million. It was the biggest event ever. It was the biggest boxing event ever, without a boxer. It was only one boxer involved in the fight.

There were indications that Showtime might bid on UFC broadcast rights, but that now seems highly unlikely. White says he despises the organization and said he would never work with them again, ever.

Espinoza responded via the social network, and eventually got into it with McGregor.

This is likely not the end of the dispute, but is in all likelihood the end of any cooperation between Showtime and the UFC.
