White: Lawler is our Holyfield
Dana White: “[Robbie Lawler] is our Evander Holyfield man, right? It’s just like he’s never in a boring fight. He’s always, when he gets hurt he continues to go toe-to-toe.”
Robbie Lawler defended his welterweight title successfully for the second time on Saturday night, taking a Split Decision win over Carlos Condit. At the UFC 195 post fight press conference, UFC president Dana White likened Lawler to former undisputedcruiserweight and heavyweight world championship boxer Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield.
“[Lawler]’s our EvanderHolyfield man, right?” said White, as transcribed by Chuck Mindenhall for MMAfighting. “It’s just like he’s never in a boring fight. He’s always, when he gets hurt he continues to go toe-to-toe. Robbie reminds me…he’s our EvanderHolyfield. He really is.
“And I respect so much when, you’re in a fight like this and you have to come out, you have to come out in that fifth round and do what Robbie did. And he did it. Great fight.”
“Carlos fought a great fight. Carlos stayed on the outside. He used his range very, very well, and then even when he got in close he was great in the clinch. You know, he came real, real close to some of those spinning elbows, to hitting Robbie with that stuff. But it was a great fight fought by both guys. It was awesome man.”
White also tweeted the Round 5 was the best 5th Round is UFC history!
