White: ‘Hilarious’ Belfort has a lot of work to do

“He’s fooling himself if that’s what he really thinks, he took a couple of home tests and he’s ready to roll,” said Dana White of Vitor Belfort returning.

Vitor Belfort was administered a surprise test by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Feb. 7. At that time he was undergoing Testosterone Replacement Therapy, under the care of a doctor.

However, while the NSAC at the time was issuing Therapeutic Use Exemptions for TRT, a fighter could not apply for one while on TRT, even if another athletic commission had issued the fighter a TUE.

Belfort had not yet applied to the NSAC for a license, and never did. Thus the NSAC is forbidden to release the results of the medical test.

Belfort recently said he was ready to be licensed and fight.

“I did all the tests that Nevada requires,” he said. “I did it on my own, and I passed them all. There is nothing in my system anymore. God has blessed me. I’m ready now, and I’m waiting.”

UFC president Dana White was asked about Belfort’s return at the UFC 172 post-fight press conference.

“He’s gotta solve his problems with the Nevada State Athletic Commission and when he does that, we’ll figure it out,” said White as transcribed by MMAFighting.

“He’s got a lot of work to do. That s— just doesn’t happen like that. You gotta get on the agenda. He’s got a lot of work to do. He’s fooling himself if that’s what he really thinks, he took a couple of home tests and he’s ready to roll. Or whatever he did.”

“He’s always fun,” said White sarcastically. “He’s hilarious.”
