White discusses Ronda, her mom, and her coach

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s mother despises her coach, Edmund Tarverdyan. Dr. AnnMaria De Mars has probably trashed talked the coach worse than anyone has been trash talked in the history of mixed martial arts. Dr. De Mars, the first American to win a world championship in Judo, refused to go to Rousey’s last fight in protest; and when Rousey lost, Dr. De Mars said if she doesn’t change coaches, the same thing will happen again.
Rousey has said she is sticking with Tarverdyan, and in an interview with TMZ, UFC president Dana White
“It’s a tough situation,” said White, as transcribed by David St. Martin for MMAFighting.com. “She has a lot of respect for her mom. She loves her mom. She wouldn’t be where she is today without her mom. It’s a tough situation for her. Listen, if you look at what she’s done to get to where she is today and then you lose one fight, it’s easy to dissect one fight and say somebody made a lot of mistakes. Look at what she did before [her loss to Holm]. Nobody is talking about that.”
“What her mom talks about is that ‘[Ronda] was that good when she walked into the gym. She wasn’t a mixed martial artist. She was a judo Olympian. Her mom is badass. Her mom was legit. Her mom started training her and then she trained with other people. I don’t know the whole Judo world but Ronda was a legit athlete walking into the sport and then became a mixed martial artist. The best mixed martial artist in the world.”
New champion Holly Holm fights Miesha Tate on March 5 at UFC 196. Ronda Rousey is expected to fight the winner. White cautioned that Holm vs. Tate is a completely different fight than Rousey vs. Holm, and the ending is not a foregone conclusion.
