In July former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar made a return to the UFC after a long, strange career. Then he failed an anti-doping test and recently accepted a one-year suspension. Back in August, after he failed the test, Lesnar was asked if he would ever return to the Octagon.
“I’ve got a few challenges to overcome, before I can get there,” replied Lesnar to TMZ. “But I don’t know. For right now, I’m gonna focus on my WWE career. I wanted to step back into the octagon, and avenge my loss against diverticulitis. … this has been a bumpy road. I’m gonna get through this alright. And there will be a day – maybe – that they see me back in the Octagon.”
UFC president Dana White recently spoke with a TMZ Sports stringer and was asked about a potential Lesnar return.
“I doubt it,” said White. I don’t know how much longer he’s got with WWE. I think his career is winding down but he’s a freak of nature – who knows, maybe he’ll give me a call and say he wants to do it again. But I think he’s ready to ride off into the sunset.”
White was also asked about another former WWE heavyweight champion, CM Punk.
“He and I have not figured that out yet,” said White. “But we will.”
White was asked if Punk will receive another fight in the UFC.
“I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know,” said White. “I gotta talk to him to see how this thing works out for him, you know? UFC is a dangerous place man, it really is. It’s a tough place to come in for your first couple of fights. I give him all the credit and respect in the world for coming in and giving it a shot. Tough place to do it though. But we’ll see what happens. Love the guy.”
