White: Biggest idiotic move in the history of our production team

Immediately in the cage post fight with Ronda Rousey, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan asked a question with what appeared to be some reluctance. He noted that the producers had directed him through his earpiece to ask it – as Jose Aldo was injured and out of his fight with Chad Mendes at UFC 176, would Ronda fight less than a month away?

The truck just asked me to ask you if you would fight on Aug. 2, said Rogan as transcribed by MMAJunkie.

Rousey gathered her thoughts for a moment.

(I’m) scheduled for knee surgery already, she said. I’m going to talk to my coaches, and if they say it’s cool with them, it’s cool with me. I’ll do it.

Shortly afterwards a clearly furious UFC president Dana White could be seen in the cage reacting to the question.

At the post-fight press conference, White explained that his ire was directed not at Rogan, but at the producers in the broadcast truck.

I wasn’t upset with Joe Rogan; I was upset with the truck telling him to tell Ronda that she’s going to fight again, said White. That wasn’t true; that was some s— that somebody made up back there. It was the biggest idiotic move in the history of our production team.

I told them right up there, that’s not true. I don’t know where that came from. Nobody told anybody to say that.

A further factor keeping Rousey out of an August fight was the hand injury she suffered during the fight, which required nine stitches – the force of the punch she landed on Davis burst a cyst in Rousey’s hand.

“The last two camps, I kept ripping my knuckle open,” said Rousey and transcribed by MMAFighting. “I just kept covering it up and hitting on it, so, it ended up getting infected, and I had a cyst on one of my knuckles. After the McMann fight, I should have taken it more seriously and gone to the doctor and checked it out, but I kind of ended up dismissing it and I kept ripping it open.”

“Hopefully the cyst is actually gone, I’m going to go to the doctor and make sure.”
