The New York State Athletic Commission made the decision to keep Rashad Evans out of the fight with Tim Kennedy at UFC 205 after there were irregular findings in an MRI administered on October 19.
Now the UFC has released a formal statement on the matter, and UFC president Dana White has offered a characteristically informal one.

The UFC organization was notified today that the New York State Athletic Commission has denied Rashad Evans a license to compete at UFC 205 due to a medical issue. Evans’ scheduled bout against Tim Kennedy this coming Saturday, November 12 in New York, will be removed from the fight card. However, both athletes will receive their show money. There are currently no plans to replace this bout.

Evans began his MMA career in 2004 under the tutelage of UFC Hall of Famer Dan Severn. He went 5-0, and entered The Ultimate Fighter 2, eventually winning the series, at 225. He then dropped to light heavyweight and went 6-0-1 before winning the UFC championship in 2008. Evans fought on, but after losing his last two in a row had planned to drop to 185 for UFC 205, some 40 pounds from his original fighting weight. The image above is the result.
Despite the loss of an awesome fight, UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, November 12th, remains the greatest night in mixed martial arts history.
