Werdum vs. Velasquez set for UFC 188 in Mexico City
However, Cain Velasquez was injured and unable to compete, but now healthy, the fight with Fabricio Werdum will happen early this summer at UFC 188.

When the UFC made it’s first trip to Mexico City in 2014, it was supposed to be lead by champion Cain Velasquez defending his title against Fabricio Werdum as both fighters had come off coaching the TUF Latin America series. However, Velasquez was injured and unable to compete, but now healthy, the fight will happen early this summer:
The long-awaited UFC heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and interim titleholder Fabricio Werdum has a new date, as the Mexico City Arena will host the UFC 188 main event on Saturday, June 13.
The bout was originally scheduled to take place in the same venue last November before Velasquez was forced to withdraw due to injury. In Velasquez’ absence, Brazil’s Werdum won the interim belt with a knockout of Mark Hunt. In June, the two best heavyweights in the game will finally meet.
The bout will be the first for Velasquez in a year and half, having last defended his title in October of 2013 against Junior Dos Santos. Werdum however last competed in the UFC’s debut in Mexico City, knocking out Mark Hunt in November of 2014 at UFC 180.
