The endlessly well-connected Ariel Helwani announced today on his MMA Hour that Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexei Oleinik will headline UFC Moscow on September 15. It is an extraordinarily intriguing matchup.

Werdum, is a two-time world champion in both gi (Mundials) and no go (ADCCs), with the best Jiu-Jitsu in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Oleinik, a specialist in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, has a mind-boggling twelve wins via Ezekiel choke; no one else in UFC history has ever hit one, and ‘The Boa Constrictor’ has done it twice. There are 55 submission wins between the pair.

Werdum, 40, is 3-2 since losing his title to current champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 198 on May 14, 2016. He is coming off a loss to Russia’s Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 127 on March 17. Oleynik, also 40, has been fighting for 21 years. He is 5-2 in the UFC, and is coming off a win over Brazil’s Junior Albini.

UFC Fight Night Werdum vs. Oleinik will be held on September 15, 2018 at Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
