#5 ranked UFC middleweight Gegard Mousasi recently put the entire division on blast, and said he would accept a fight with anyone in the top 15.

“Chris Weidman doesn’t pick up his phone,” he said. “The UFC offered him that fight a couple of times.”

The UFC apparently offered #4 ranked Weidman the fight a couple times more, as the pair a now contracted to fight at UFC 210 on April 8, 2017, at KeyBank Center, in Buffalo, New York. This is the event’s only scheduled fight to date.

Once I heard he was calling me out, I said let’s give this guy what he wants, said Weidman to Mark LaMonica for Newsday. Now I’m going to throw this guy a beating.

Weidman is on a two-fight losing streak, losing his title to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015, and then losing via knee KO to Yoel Romero at UFC 205 November 12, 2016.

Weidman, a 32-year-old Serra-Longo fighter from Baldwin, is a former middleweight champion is on a two-fight losing streak. Weidman (13-2, 9-2 UFC) last fought at UFC 205 in November at Madison Square Garden, losing by third-round knockout via a flying knee by Yoel Romero. Mousasi is one a four-fight win streak, abeit against lesser competition.

This fight is the final one on Mousasi’s contract, which means a win sets him up for a lucrative free agency. A win is also central for Weidman, who just 13 months ago was the world champion, with three successful title defenses.
