UFC middle weight Chris Weidman is big. Sometimes he got too big. His least impressive fight to date was back in 2012, when he took a fight with Demian Maia on short notice, and had to cut 32 pounds in short order. While he remained undefeated, he fought like a man who, well, who cut 32 pounds in 10 days.

Weidman has spoken about moving up to light heavyweight for a superfight. But in an interview with MMAJunkie Radio, the champ said he has secured the services of a nutritionist, abstains from alcohol, and feels more like a welterweight. In 2012 he was walking around at 217, but says now he wakes up as low as 192.

My wife’s going to make me a separate meal, so it’s not going to be everything I want, said Weidman as transcribed by Steven Marrocco for MMAjunkie. But it’s alright. I like to be disciplined, and it’s sacrifices like that that make everything pay off at the end.

I’m more like a 170-pounder. I weigh like 192, 193 in the morning. I’ve got my weight down really low for this one.

I really didn’t get out of shape between fights, and it kept my weight down low. I’ve been just living a healthy lifestyle. I don’t drink any more, so I think that keeps the weight down, too.

I don’t mind making sacrifices/ I’ve missed Christmases and Thanksgivings from my wrestling days to my fighting days. It’s part of the sport, and it motivates me.

Chris Weidman fights Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas Nevada.
