The 28-year-old formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver was involved in an altercation at Thrusters Lounge on Mission Boulevard near Emerald Street about 10:50 p.m., San Diego police said.

A bouncer told officers that the mixed martial artist was going crazy, police said.

He ran away when police arrived and was arrested about 10 minutes later a few blocks away at Bayard Street and Garnet Avenue.

He will face charges of assault with a deadly weapon, police said. Officers said the professional fighter struck at least one person in the head with his fist, which could have caused severe injury, though no one was hospitalized.

The news is all the more unfortunate given War Machine’s recently expressed desire via twitter to turn his life around:

By November my partners and I will be opening our own gym in Washington State! I’m gonna get married in June. Start living a good life. Too much BS in the last few years. I am making a HUGE change. Watch and see, new WM is a coming!”
