Wand will not be able to participate in Bellator marketing event

Yesterday Bellator announced that Wanderlei Silva would be appearing at a Bellator 131 pre-event party, along with Royce Gracie, Randy Couture, and Frank Shamrock. While Gracie has maintained a good relationship with ZUFFA, Shamrock, Couture, and now Silva have not.

Today Bellator announced that Silva would not be attending.

“Due to contractual obligations, Wanderlei Silva will not be able to participate in #Bellator131’s pre-promotion,” tweeted the promotion.

Wanderlei Silva remains under contract with the UFC, despite a lifetime ban he received from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, for running from a PED test.

A source close to the promotion, speaking on condition of anonymity with MMAjunkie because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said Bellator agreed to not utilize Silva when informed that he was still under contract with the UFC.
