“Vermont’s legislation of the sport of MMA is further evidence of the continued growth and success of our sport in this country,” UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta stated. “We are pleased that fans in Vermont will now have the opportunity to watch a live UFC event in their own backyard and look forward to making that happen.”
Currently home to just approximately 626,000 residents, Vermont sits on the eastern border of New York.
The biggest cities include Burlington (42,000 residents) and Essex (20,000), though it’s unclear if Zuffa considers either big enough to host a Zuffa event. Still, the new regulation could open the door for a bigger regional scene to produce prospects from the state.
