The Other Side: Jim Miller holds the record for the most wins in UFC history with 25. Earning 25 wins in the biggest MMA promotion in the world isn’t easy and is something that should be celebrated.
Deontay Wilder proposed a two-fight deal to Francis Ngannou, including boxing and MMA
The Proposal: Deontay Wilder wants to compete against Francis Ngannou in a professional boxing match first, then fight him in a cage in an MMA fight.
How realistic is this? Don’t hold your breath when a multi-millionaire boxer tells you they’re willing to fight in MMA. It’s not as lucrative, and it’s a major risk for them. That being said, the PFL is ready to promote an MMA fight between Wilder and Ngannou if the fighters come to terms on a boxing fight.
The 2022 PFL champion got eliminated from the 2023 season
What Happened? Brendan Loughnane got knocked out in the first round by Jesus Pinedo in last night’s PFL event. Loughnane won $1 million and a PFL championship last year and is no longer eligible to repeat in 2023.
What’s Next? Loughnane might compete in showcase fights later this year. Movlid Khaybulaev, Pinedo, Bubba Jenkins and Gabriel Braga are the final four featherweights.
Israel Adesanya is down for a fight against Khamzat Chimaev
What did he say? Israel Adesanya likes the challenge Khamzat Chimaev presents and knows it’ll be a big fight.
When could it happen? Not next. Adesanya really wants to fight Dricus Du Plessis, and the UFC is targeting a welterweight fight between Chimaev and Kamaru Usman next. This will become more realistic when Chimaev decides to permanently move to the middleweight division.
Chris Weidman is returning to the octagon after breaking his leg.
Against who and where? Chris Weidman will fight Brad Tavares at UFC 292 in Boston. This isn’t an easy comeback fight, as Tavares has fought the best of the division.
What’s at stake? Possibly, Weidman’s career. He didn’t want his last memory inside the octagon of him being stretchered out with a broken leg.
Bad judging cost Kai Kara-France $100,000
How? Kai Kara-France lost an extremely controversial split decision to Amir Albazi last week. He lost a $100,000 win bonus because of the decision.
Other consequences: In addition to taking a financial hit, Kara-France went from being ranked No. 3 to No. 5 in the flyweight rankings.
Angela Lee could likely retire from MMA following the death of her sister
What Happened? Angela Lee‘s 18-year-old sister Victoria Lee died this past December, and Chatri Sityodtong confirmed to the media that Angela is likely to retire from fighting now.
Legacy: Angela Lee is the only women’s atomweight champion in ONE’s history. She defended her title five times and was always a great representative of the sport.
