Velasquez responds to Rothwell PED remarks

UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell appeared on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, and implied that heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was using performance enhancing drugs. Given that there is not a single shred of evidence for that, the charge is perhaps part of Rothwell’s heel turn. Further, Rothwell is himself a former user of Testosterone Replacement Therapy, which makes him an odd person to be making unfortunate implications.

Velasquez was informed of the remarks at a media lunch to promote Saturday’s UFC 188 title fight with Fabricio Werdum.

“That I am?” Velasquez chuckled, as transcribed by Marc Raimondi for MMAFighting.com. “That’s a big compliment for me, because I’m never known for physique. For someone to point that out, I’m kind of flattered.”

“Did you watch his after-fight speech? Maybe it’s coming from that, I don’t know.”

“I think we all need to be on the same playing field. So for them to finally be really strict on this is great for the sport. I know what I’m doing as far as what I’m doing to help me in fighting and I want my opponent to be on the same level.”

“Doesn’t matter to me. You want to test me right now?”
