In May, Norway’s Emil ‘Valhalla’ Meek came to widespread attention at Venator FC when he crushed Rousimar Palhares, and did so looking exactly like one of his viking ancestors.

There is no one in the mixed martial arts space with a more incongruous last name. “Chop the Heads off the” might be an apt nickname.

The UFC signed Meek and scheduled him to fight Jessie Ayari at UFC Fight Night 93 on Sept. 3 in Hamburg, Germany.

However, In July Meek informed the UFC’s independent PED testing arm, USADA, that he received medical treatment that could potentially be out of compliance. As a precaution, Meek was pulled from the card. He did not face a potential anti-doping policy violation.

Now Meek finally makes his UFC debut, vs. Canadian Jordan Mein at UFC 206 in Toronto on Saturday.

In the old days you could spice up your favorite alcoholic beverage with bog myrtle until you burst into a great, uncontrollable rage accompanied by grunts and howls, indiscriminately injuring, maiming, and killing anything in your path.

Now we have USADA, and some safe-space seeking sissies wouldn’t even let Meek bring his axe to the cage, or even to the UFC media day!!?!

Helwani suggested a Reebok sticker for the axe.

“I’ll ask,” replied the jovial Meek.

Helwani also asked Valhalla about his nickname.

“It’s a place where warriors go when they fall in battle,” explained the fighter. “You have to fall in glorious battle. Then you go there, it’s like a heaven. You drink beer, you fight, and then you have sex with ladies. Amazing right? Who wouldn’t want to go there?”

Helwani noted that the fighter had recently changed his Twitter handle from EmilMeekMMA to EmilValhalla and enquired as to whether it was due to Valhalla envisioning Valhalla in his mind.

“It’s just making it easier for people to find me,” in No Way Meek replied.
