ONE Championship women’s atomweight champion Angela Lee will be defending her title in a rematch with Mei Yamaguchi in Singapore on November 24. UFC senior vice-president of international and content Joe Carr and strawweight Michelle Waterson have suggested that ‘Unstoppable’ wouldn’t be competitive in the world’s dominant league, but Lee isn’t buying it.
To be honest it doesn’t bother me too much because I have complete confidence in myself and knowing what I’m capable of as a fighter, said the unbeaten 21-year-old to Mathew Scott for the South China Morning Post. I think a lot of the UFC fighters like to talk a lot, but if you were to put us inside the cage it would be a different story.
I’m young and I’m healthy and I’m improving. There’s no one that’s going to stop me.
This is a great opportunity for me to do it right. The last fight, I had never experienced that before and it was the biggest fight of my life. This time I am looking to step into the cage with complete confidence. This time it won’t go to a decision. I’m looking to showcase my new skills. My training has been better than ever.
Yamaguchi is the only fighter to take Lee the distance, and is coming off a second round submission of Jenny Huang in June. She vowed the rematch will be different.
The last match was my first time with One and I wasn’t really used to the environment,” said Yamaguchi. “Now I am used to it and this time I am really prepared, 100 percent.”
