MMA Fighter in a Coma in China

Just heard that At the Ultimate Wrestler China MMA event last night a Thai fighter kicked a Chinese combatant in the neck, putting him instantly into a state of unconsciousness which as of today he has failed to regain. Currently the Chinese fighter is in a Comatose condition. Any hear any other info on this?—with the UFC looking to expand into China I’m sure they can use this to show how badly the sport needs to be regulated properly if events are going to be held. Often when we send fighters to China to compete medicals and ‘rules’ are still being discussed until fight night.

I fought for that same organization in July (2010). The way “Ultimate Wreslte” is regulated is a circus. The officials will keep changing the rules until litterally 2 minutes before the fight.

Check this out, I was told the fights would use unified (UFC) rules, but notice in this pic as my opponent tries his darndest to head kick me on the ground (good thing I saw it coming and blocked it

)

I finally got an English translation of the official rules for “Ultimate Wreslte”, and now I completely understand why the Chinese fighters are so quick to throw illegal soccer kicks when their opponent tries to play the guard game. It turns out that if you injure your opponent with an illegal blow, instead of the bout being declared a no contest, the fighter left standing wins!

I completely understand why the Thai fighter tried to decapitate the Chinese guy with a head kick, though. If you’re a foreigner, and you want to win a fight in China, you must KO your opponent. The judges will never give you the decision win, and the referree will look for every possible way to disqualify you or stand you back up if you’re looking for a submission or ground and pound victory.

Actually, I think I know who the Thai fighter in question is. We both fought in a China vs the world K-1 event in inner Mongolia. He clearly won his fight against a Chinese opponent, but the judges robbed him, declaring him loser by virtue of being a foreigner. He seemed pretty pissed off about it afterward. No wonder he came out like this in his next fight:

I can’t say i blame him one bit.

Another of “Ultimate Wrestle’s” big issues is their propensity to allow completely untrained, inexperienced, amateur fighters to compete with seasoned professionals.

The same show I fought in had some poor kid with stars in his eyes, who had barely even touched a heavy bag let alone sparred before. He lived through the savage beating, but they had to sew his face back together afterward. No other fight show in Asia I’ve participated in lets fighters in without a pro record, credentials, and/or refferences from respectable training camps.

“Ultimate Wrestle”, however… if you’re white, they’ll put you on the card. Funny thing, they’re still using my picture on their promotional posters and website to showcase that they are some kind of bigshot international organization. Apearently in China, random white guys are good for publicity. Check it out:

Only one of the fighters on that poster was actually in the event advertised. The rest are just there for show. I had no idea until a friend posted this on facebook after the fact.

Anyway, China has a long way to go in MMA. In the mean time, it’s a paycheck.
