Ian McCall hasn’t been lucky. The run of injuries and medical maladies and lost fights could take up this blog for a week. In 2012 he lost the narrowest majority decision by the P4P best fighter in MMA Demetrious Johnson. He’s gone 2-4 since, and is on a three-fight losing streak, most recently getting KOed in nine seconds by Kyoji Horiguchi at Rizin 10 on Saturday night in Fukuoka, Japan.

I came here to die and I think I punched him once, said McCall at the post fight press conference, as transcribed by Ryan Harkness for MMA Mania. I don’t know, I have to watch it again. It’s really embarrassing, so I don’t know. Truly sad. … I have to go home and talk to my family, see if I want to do this anymore. I have other opportunities in life, and I’ll be honest … maybe this sport has passed me by. It’s a lot to think about. And to think it has, it hurts. I never really got to show the world how good I am.

This run of ill luck cannot last forever, right?
