At Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 42 event, Jason High felt referee Kevin Mulhall stopped the fight prematurely in awarding the fight to Rafael Dos Anjos. He expressed his displeasure by shoving the ref.
Incredibly sorry & embarrassed for the ref incident, High tweeted afterwards. Will never happen again.
There is no chance it will happen again for a while.
That’s never happened in New Mexico before, said New Mexico AC head Tom King. That just really doesn’t happen sport wide. Everyone knows you don’t touch officials. You just don’t.
King expects to address the foul next Tuesday; High could face a six-month to a year suspension.
And at least for the time being, there is no chance it happens in the UFC, as president Dana White announced that he would firing the fighter.
What I did find out is that I guess that Jason High kid got up and pushed a referee,” said White on UFC.com “He’s cut. I’m going to cut him. I look at that the way Daley put his hands on his opponent after a fight was over.
You don’t ever, ever f—ing touch a referee, ever. You’re done here. He’s been apologizing on Twitter, but he’s done.
In a curious twist, Ariel Helwani said High may have been expecting no sanction.
“Interestingly enough, High’s manager told me the commission told them they would receive no punishment for the action,” tweeted Helwani.
High went 3-0 in Strikeforce. When he moved to the UFC, he lost his first fight via submission, to Erick Silva. He then won the next two, beating James Head and Anthony Lapsley.
And then Saturday he lost.
And now he is gone.
High did not behave on his social network as if you wanted to or perhaps expected to be back.
After White offered a nuanced explanation for Chael Sonnen’s failed drug test, Hightweeted bluntly:

•Push steroids, not referees. #NOTED
•IT WAS AN ACCIDENT! Oh well…
