While he technically suffered a loss to Curtis Blaydes one year ago, Tom Aspinall now holds the higher position in the latest UFC heavyweight rankings.
Aspinall (13-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) needed just 73 seconds to dispatch of a gritty Marcin Tybura at this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night 224 event, and voters rewarded him with a move up one position into the No. 4 slot at heavyweight, which also dropped Blaydes to No. 5.
The two stepped in the octagon together in July 2022, though the matchup ended in just 15 seconds when an Aspinall knee injury led to a premature ending to the contest and Blaydes was awarded a rather unfulfilling TKO victory.
Elsewhere in the heavyweight rankings, Tybura’s loss saw him drop one spot to No. 11, pushing heavy hitter Derrick Lewis up one spot to No. 10.
Additionally, previous No. 15 Blagoy Ivanov was removed from eligibility, with Brazil’s Marcos Rogerio de Lima now moving into that spot ahead of his appearance at this weekend’s UFC 291.
