While this past weekend’s UFC 280 saw the crowning of a new champion with Islam Makhachev (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) submitting former lightweight titleholder Charles Oliveira, two new No. 1 contenders also emerged from the night’s action in Abu Dhabi in this week’s updated UFC rankings.

Sean O’Malley (16-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) leaped up 10 spots to secure the No. 1 position at 135 pounds with his hard-fought “Fight of the Night” decision win over former champ Petr Yan, while at women’s flyweight, it was Manon Fiorot (10-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) who moved up five positions to take over the No. 1 slot at women’s flyweight following her decision win over perennial contender Katlyn Chookagian

Fiorot also was awarded a slot on the women’s pound-for-pound list, debuting at No. 13.

Meanwhile, in addition to claiming the UFC lightweight title, Makhachev also debut on the men’s pound-for-pound list at No. 3, trailing only Alexander Volkanovski and Israel Adesanya on that list.
