Max Holloway (24-7 MMA, 20-7 UFC) entered this past weekend’s UFC on ESPN 44 event in a unique position.

Sitting at No. 2 in the featherweight rankings, behind only reigning champ Alexander Volkanovski and interim titleholder Yair Rodriguez, Holloway had no room to move up at 145 pounds entering his headliner with Arnold Allen (19-2 MMA, 10-1 UFC). But after taking home a unanimous decision win over “Almighty,” Holloway was rewarded with a rise in the pound-for-pound list in the latest official rankings, moving up two spots to No. 13, sliding past Jamahal Hill and Robert Whittaker.

At 145 pounds, Holloway maintained his No. 2 position. Allen also was not punished for his loss, holding firm at No. 4.
