Justin Gaethje is unquestionably one of the most exciting athletes on the UFC roster. He’s also the No. 13 pound-for-pound fighter in the promotion according to the UFC’s latest official rankings update.
Following his UFC 291 win over Dustin Poirier, a result that saw “The Highlight” claim the promotion’s vacant BMF title, Gaethje (25-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) returned to the pound-for-pound list, where he previously resided prior to a UFC 274 loss to Charles Oliveira in May 2022.
Poirier entered the week ranked No. 13 on the pound-for-pound list but exits with his loss.
The main event also had an impact in the lightweight rankings, with Gaethje and Poirier swapping positions. Gaethje now sits at No. 2, behind only No. 1 contender Charles Oliveira, while Poirier falls to No. 3.
An additional change to the pound-for-pound list sees Alex Pereira (8-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) move up one position and into a tie at No. 10 with former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka. It’s possible those two could meet later this year with a vacant title on the line.
