The UFC’s 135-pound division continues to see impressive performances by the top contenders in the weight class, and this past weekend’s UFC on ESPN 43 event was no exception.
In the night’s main event, Cory Sandhagen (16-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) technically scored a split-decision win over a game Marlon Vera (22-8-1 MMA, 14-7 UFC), though the final scores hardly seemed to tell the story of what was a rather one-sided affair.
As a reward for his effort, Sandhagen was bumped up two slots in the latest official UFC bantamweight rankings and now owns the No. 3 position, trailing only No. 1 Merab Dvalishvili and No. 2 Sean O’Malley.
Meanwhile, Vera slides down two spot and now sits at No. 5, just behind No. 4 Petr Yan.
