UFC women’s flyweight champion Alexa Grasso (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) claimed her title in March, scoring a shocking submission win over former titleholder Valentina Shevchenko (23-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) at UFC 285. Three months later, the Mexican champion can now call herself the top pound-for-pound woman in the sport.
Former pound-for-pound No. 1 and UFC double champion Amanda Nunes (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) recently announced her retirement, and “The Lioness” was removed from the latest UFC rankings update, allowing Grasso to move from No. 2 to the top spot on the list.
Shevchenko currently sits at No. 2, meaning an expected rematch with Grasso will feature the top two pound-for-pound women in the promotion.
Nunes’ retirement also leaves the women’s bantamweight division without a champion. She also ruled the women’s featherweight division prior to walking away, though the organization does not have official rankings for women at 145 pounds.
