UFC middleweight champion Tyron Woodley appeared recently on The Anik and Florian Podcast and discussed UFC 205 challenger Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
Within moments of defeating Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 on July 30, Woodley called for money fights with Nick Diaz or GSP. However, he ended up being matched with the #1 contender Thompson, who had stayed active on social media calling for the title challenge, and criticizing the calls for a fight with GSP or Diaz. Woodley says the fight with Thompson was actually agreed upon many weeks ago, and that the protests were a charade.
The thing that motivates me about this fight is, Wonderboy, I respect him as an opponent, but I really don’t respect him as a man, said Woodley, as transcribed by Nick Baldwin for BE. He knows that we committed to this fight almost six weeks ago. And for him to charade around like I’m scared to fight him, retweeting and liking all these posts, for someone to desperately need to that affirmation from the fans and for people to like him, I can’t respect that.
For some reason, he has managed to get underneath my skin. And I just don’t buy that fake humble, I just don’t buy it. When someone’s portraying something they’re not to get underneath my skin, I’m just going to funnel that into a great strategy and I’m going to try to get him out of there quick.
Woodley was also not impressed with a recent tweet by the UFC Fight Pass twitter account.

Nate Marquardt signed to fight Tamdan McCrory at UFC Fight Night 96 on October 1, 2016 at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The fight will be at the top of the UFC Fight Pass streamed portion of the card, so their social media team dug up a 2012 fight in Strikeforce where Marquardt KOed Woodley in Round 4.
Marquardt has gone 2-6 since then, while Woodley has gone 5-2. Marquardt is on Fight Pass, while Woodley is the world champion. so the video does not have a lot of relevance any longer. And Woodley took it is a blatant sign of disrespect.
