# I expect to be on the January 1st card. I do not have an opponent yet. Any takers? @UFC
It appears a heavyweight bout between Shane Carwin and Roy Big Country Nelson is being targeted for UFC 125, on January 01st, 2011.
Sources close to the bout have informed Sportsnet that the two heavyweights will lock horns on the main card of the UFC’s first show of the New Year.
Carwin will be returning to the octagon after suffering the first loss of his professional MMA career, an arm triangle submission to heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 116. While he dominated the champion in the first round, scored by many as a 10-8, he punched himself out in the process, citing lactic acidosis for the reason he was unable to perform in the second round.
Nelson, is coming off an inspirational performance against top contender Junior dos Santos at UFC 117, a bout he lost via unanimous judges decision.
The only potential issue is if Nelson doesn’t fully recover in time from knee surgery. The former IFL champion went under the knife immediately following his loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 117, and it is still unclear whether or not he will be ready to compete again in three months.
If Nelson isn’t cleared to fight, there is also a chance the fight could be pushed back a month.
