Mixed Martial Arts, more specifically the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has been tremendously growing in global popularity over the past few years. Since 2007, the UFC has held a total of 12 events in countries outside of the United States, including Canada, England, Germany, and Ireland.
The recently released 2009 Year-End Google Zeitgeist lists the UFC as the number 3 fastest rising sports search globally. Topping the list are Real Madrid and US Open, at number 1 and 2 respectively.
The high ranking is sure to please UFC officials, especially taking into account the fact that Google is the largest search engine in the world.
To further continue its global expansion in 2010, the organization is scheduled to hold UFC 110 in Australia on February 21. Also, although not officially announced, UFC 112 is expected to be held in England on April 10, and UFC 113 in Canada on May 1.
