Amanda Nunes’ bantamweight title defense against Julianna Pena at UFC 265 is off after Nunes tested positive for COVID-19.
COVID-19 bounces Amanda Nunes-Julianna Pena from UFC 265
UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell told ESPN of Nunes’ situation Thursday.
Nunes (21-4) and Pena (10-4) were set to compete in the co-main event of UFC 265 on August 7 in Houston, Texas. The headliner on that card will be an interim heavyweight title bout between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane.
MMAJunkie reported that the Nunes-Pena fight could be rescheduled for December.
Nunes would have entered the fight with a 12-match winning streak on her side. The Brazilian hasn’t lost since September 2014 and has defeated star talents in Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Cris Cyborg, and Holly Holm in her rise to the universally viewed GOAT of women’s MMA.
