Spike TV’s broadcast of two preliminary card bouts from this past Saturday’s “UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun” card drew 1.4 million viewers according to a report issued today by the cable television network. The viewership equals the 1.4 million viewers that tuned in for a similar broadcast prior to September’s UFC 103 event.

The one-hour broadcast ranked behind only ESPN’s coverage of an NCAA college football game during the 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET time slot.

While the preliminary card specials that have accompanied the UFC’s past two pay-per-view specials have been met with positive response from fans, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com he is still unsure if the organization will continue the broadcast strategy on future cards.
