Sources close to the bout have confirmed that Matt Veach has had to withdraw from his UFC 102 fight with Evan Dunham. The Aug. 29 event takes place at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore.

Stepping in to take Veach’s place is Marcus Aurelio (18-7).

Aurelio made his exit from the promotion back-to-back losses to Tyson Griffin and Hermes Franca in 2008. The American Top Team fighter has since won two fights in a row, defeating Chris Liguori and Joey Gorczynski earlier this year.

A back injury will force Wilson Gouveia off of UFC 102 on August 29th. MMANews.com confirmed the injury with the American Top Team middleweights marketing team, Method MMA Marketing.

Originally set to face James Irvin on the card, an injury forced Irvin out and The Ultimate Figher 3 finalist Ed Herman stepped up to fill in for him. Now with Gouviea out, Herman finds himself without an opponent after filling in for the injured Irvin. Gouveia contacted the UFC earlier today to inform them of the injury but no word on whether they will find a replacement to fight Herman or if the fight will be removed from the card completly.

He will be out until at least October and will need two weeks of rehab to nurse the injured back.

Ed Herman and Wilson Gouveia have agreed to face off in a middleweight bout at UFC 102 on Aug. 29 in Portland, Ore., according to sources close to the negotiations.

If signed, Herman will replace James Irvin, who withdrew from the bout due to recurring knee injury sustained in training, as first reported by Sports 1140 KHTK host Carmichael Dave.

Irvin’s manager, Mike Roberts, confirmed the injury to Sherdog.com on Wednesday. Roberts said the 30-year-old fighter will undergo a second surgery for his right knee that could shelve Irvin anywhere from six to nine months, according to early estimates.

Herman (15-7), a member of Matt Lindland’s Team Quest squad, earned a unanimous decision against David Loiseau at UFC 97 last April in Montreal. Herman was the runner-up on season three of The Ultimate Fighter.

Sacramento based fighter James Irvin has suffered another massive setback in his oft-injured career, this time with a massive knee injury.

He will obviously not be able to face Wilson Gouveia at UFC 102.

Irvin is expected to undergo reconstructive surgery sometime in the next few days, and is also expected to miss 6-10 months.

An intriguing light-heavyweight bout between Matt Hamill (6-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Brandon Vera (10-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) has been scratched from UFC 102’s main card and will be replaced by a Vera vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (18-8-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) fight.

The change, first reported by Sherdog, resulted from an injured knee suffered by Hamill during a recent training session.

“(It’s) just a meniscus tear,” Hamill’s trainer, Duff Holmes, told MMAjunkie.com. “He’s going for a scope tomorrow, and we’ll be back to training after three or four weeks of rehab.”
