MMAJunkie’s Steven Marrocco reports via Twitter that the UFC hopes to put together a top contender match up between Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley for UFC 174. The event will be held in Vancouver, BC on June 14th.
The winner, assuming he acquits himself in a compelling fashion, would presumably get a title shot.
MacDonald is coming off a a Fight of the Night winning decision win over Demian Maia UFC 170, and a split decision loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 167.
Woodley is coming off a dominating performance vs. Carlos Condit at UFC 171, that ended when Condit injured his knee in the second round.
UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks is coming off surgery for a torn bicep, and will could fight in the Fall vs. the winner of MacDonald vs. Woodley.
