Yair Rodríguez and Alex Caceres put on a performance that defied the conventions of mixed martial arts. The sport was born from the submission-focused Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has come to be dominated by wrestling based fighters, who can dictate where the fight takes place.
Rodríguez takes his lead from Taekwondo and perhaps video games, while ‘Bruce Leroy’ fought like Bruce Lee. Rodríguez dominated early, with Caceres finding his rhythm in later rounds, like Bruce Lee in the Colosseum vs. Chuck Norris. One judge saw it for Caceres and two for Rodríguez, but the real winners were the millions of fans watching.
