When the purses for UFC 203 were announced, there was widespread surprise that Phil ‘CM Punk’ Brooks made $500,000, after showing little more fighting skills than that possessed by for example the average say college soccer player.

Punk made exactly 20 times more than did JoJo Calderwood. Dr. Kneevil is fan friendly, and an actual fighter, training in combat sports since 2000, with a 19-2 Muay Thai record and a 13-2 MMA record. Punk made 50 times more than Jason Gonzalez, who was making his UFC debut after fighting pro for half a decade. Punk made 17 times more than Mickey Gall, the man who schooled him.

As always, Twitter reacted, with responses ranging from wistful wishes that all purses were that size, to pointed scorn that a one-stripe white belt got one of the biggest payouts of the year.
