Where previous seasons of The Ultimate Fighter have focused on finding relatively unknown talent, TUF 24 sought out sixteen flyweight champions from promotions across the planet. The fighters will be divided into two teams, and coached by #1 ranked contender Joseph Benavidez and #2 Henry Cejudo.
In a first, at the TUF 24 Finale on Dec. 3, the winner of the tournament gets a title shot at the UFC flyweight title, currently held by Demetrious Johnson. Johnson had been expected to face Wilson Reis on July 30, 2016 at UFC 201 but withdrew On July 8 due to an undisclosed injury suffered in training. Opposing coaches Benavidez and Cejudo will also fight, presumably setting up a rematch with the winner of the TUF24 champion vs. the UFC champion.
