TEAM JOANNA’S ASHLEY YODER (4-1) VS. TEAM CLAUDIA’S KATE JACKSON (7-2-1)
Round 1 – Sloppy striking exchanges begin the fight but neither side can land a clean or damaging blow. Yoder throws a poorly timed high kick that’s caught by Jackson and turned into a takedown. Jackson lands on top but Yoder immediately shows active hips and throws her legs up for an armbar. Jackson keeps her weight on the arm and patiently waits to escape. Yoder nearly sweeps from the bottom but instead leaves herself open for a flurry of Jackson’s punches and elbows. Yoder keeps her legs high, continuing her armbar attempt, but also unleashes two vicious illegal upkicks to the face of her opponent. The referee doesn’t break up the action and only issues Yoder a verbal warning. Jackson resumes her top pressure but Yoder isn’t giving up on trying to extend an arm for the submission victory. Yoder has a tight wrap on the arm but Jackson is defending wisely. They remain in the position until the end of the round.
Round 2 – Yoder lands a nice knee to the body of Jackson from a standing position. Jackson presses forward but Yoder clips her with a right hand. Jackson ties Yoder up in the clinch and looks for a takedown, but Yoder forces her away with a guillotine choke attempt. Jackson throws another single punch then changes levels to get inside. She tries hard for a takedown but overcommits and allows Yoder to scramble and nearly lock up an armbar. Jackson keeps her base, though, and ends up on top in guard. Jackson is doing more defending than attacking from the top because Yoder has her limbs tied up. The referee isn’t a fan of the lack of action and decides to reset the fight on its feet. Jackson doesn’t give any time for Yoder to breath, though, and once again pursues the clinch. Yoder keeps distance but Jackson goes up high with a head kick that causes Yoder to retreat. She quickly recovers and goes back on offense. She peppers Jackson with kicks and even attempts a spinning backfist. Yoder walks right into the clinch of Jackson and eats a massive knee to the head with less than 15 seconds remaining. She’s in trouble and desperately shoots for a takedown that’s prevented by Jackson illegally grabbing the cage just before the final bell
