TEAM CLAUDIA’S ABDEL MEDJEDOUB (3-0) VS. TEAM JOANNA’S JOSH STANSBURY (7-2)
Round 1 – Medjedoub and Stansbury wing heavy punches in the center of the octagon to start things off. Medjedoub bites first and changes levels for a takedown, but Stansbury shrugs him off. Medjedoub keeps close range, however, getting hold of Stansbury’s body and pressing him against the cage. Medjedoub lands knees to Stansbury’s legs and body from the clinch. Stansbury lands a knee of his own that causes Medjedoub to break free as if he’s hurt. Stansbury lands a few more punches as Medjedoub complains to the referee about a groin strike. Referee Herb Dean breaks up the action, giving Medjedoub time to recovery. Action resumes and Stansbury lands a huge front kick to the body. A scramble ensues off a takedown attempt but they end up back on the feet. Medjedoub goes back to the clinch but fails on another takedown attempt before Stansbury escapes into striking range. Stansbury lands a combination but Medjedoub rushes against the cage and goes back to his strategy of short strikes and takedown attempts. Stansbury is fighting well with his back against the cage, landing some hard shots, but Medjedoub keeps the position until the referee breaks it up. Medjedoub lands a crisp counter combination as Stansbury presses forward. Both men land hard shots before the end of the round, including a spinning backfist from Stansbury.
Round 2 – Stansbury goes up high for a head kick that’s blocked. Medjedoub charges him and Stansbury lands an uppercut and knee inside that forced Medjedoub to clinch. Medjedoub is simply holding on as Stansbury shuts down his takedown attempts. Stansbury gets free but eats a hard right hand from Medjedoub for his efforts. Stansbury presses forward but is eating counter punches from Medjedoub each time he presses the action. Medjedoub reengages in the clinch but is turned around by Stansbury, who goes for a takedown of his own. Medjedoub stops it, but just as he goes to break free Stansbury throws a huge head kick that lands on the jaw. Medjedoub goes down and into survival mode as Stansbury blasts him with numerous follow-up blows. Medjedoub somehow survives the onslaught to get back to his feet but Stansbury keeps on punching. Medjedoub is throwing back but is still badly hurt and simply trying to survive. Stansbury is working hard to finish the fight but Medjedoub gets his hands on Stansbury and briefly holds him against the fence. They stand in the center of the octagon and Stansbury is having his way with the jab and body kicks. Medjedoub seems to recover and isn’t quitting, though. Medjedoub once again gets inside and is working inside strikes from the clinch. Both fighters attack from the clinch until time expires.
