TEAM JOANNA’S J.J. ALDRICH (2-1) VS. TEAM CLAUDIA’S TATIANA SUAREZ (3-0)
Round 1 – Aldrich opens with a straight right to the chin of her opponent. Suarez responds by pressing the action with kicks. Aldrich responds with a leg kick of her own and Suarez changes level attempting for a takedown. Aldrich sprawls but Suarez adjusts and turns the takedown into a trip. Suarez establishes side control near the cage but Aldrich works to scramble free. Suarez holds on with a front headlock and throws a pair of knees to the body. Aldrich stands back up but Suarez still has her pressed against the wall. Suarez scoops Aldrich for another takedown and scrambles to the back. Suarez peppers Aldrich with punches as she works for the rear-naked choke. She gets the arm under the neck but is falling off the back. Aldrich manages to shake her off and escape to her feet. Suarez insists on fighting from in close and locks her hands for another takedown. Suarez lands some big punches and Aldrich rolls to escape. Suarez tucks her arm around Aldrich’s neck, though, and falls back for a D’arce choke. Aldrich fights out of it but as she gets up is almost caught in a standing guillotine choke. Aldrich gets out of that, as well, and begins to hammer Suarez with big elbows as she sprawls against the fence. That marks the end of the round.
Round 2 – Aldrich is the aggressor to start the round. She’s landing punches but Suarez keeps her at bay with leg kicks and her jab. Suarez quickly changes levels for a takedown and once again scores with each. Suarez pressures from the top and is working toward another submission. She slows Aldrich with elbows to the body and creates and opening to take the back. Suarez sinks both hooks in and continues to batter Aldrich with massive body shots. Aldrich finally makes the mistake that allows Suarez to sink her arm under the jaw for the tight rear-naked choke and Aldrich is left no choice but to tap out.
